Description:
Batsford Arboretum is a slightly unusual garden to visit, but well worth the trek to its location in the Cotswolds. For those of you who may not know, an arboretum is a garden dedicated to trees, and in this Batsford excels. It is situated on a south facing slope, which makes for many interesting views of its extensive collection of Acers, firs and other trees. We visited in autumn, when the colours of the Acers were at their best. The collection includes some magnificent specimens of larger trees such as Redwoods. The location and less formalised gardening lends itself to children - there is plenty of space to run around and enjoy a day out. The collection is complimented by a surprisingly good cafe restaurant - easily amongst the best we have visited at any garden. Batsford is in the final stages of a two year renovation project, so has good quality, modern facilities. Check out their website at www.batsarb.co.uk
