2-5 yearsHosta 'Francee' (fortunei) is a variegated hosta, producing medium-sized clumps of heart-shaped green leaves with crisp white margins from spring to late autumn. It also produces spikes of bell-shaped lavender flowers in summer. The striking foliage shows off well as underplanting in shady areas.
Like most hostas, 'Francee' prefers a site in partial or full shade, with a moist, well drained, acid to neutral soil. In alkaline soils the leaves have a tendency to turn yellow. Hostas are notoriously attractive to slugs and snails, but using nematode treatments in spring can help to protect against leaf damage
Hostas associate well with other shade loving plants such as ferns and astilbes. They also make excellent container plants.
