2-5 yearsGeranium phaeum 'Album' is, as its name suggests, the white form of this hardy cranesbill. An ideal plant for a woodland area or a shady spot, it forms tall hummocks of mid-green, deeply lobed foliage with purple blotches in the centres of the leaves. In late spring and early summer, clusters of small, pure white flowers appear on long stems above the foliage. It works well as a ground cover plant, with the mounds of foliage doing an excellent job of suppressing weeds.
Like all Geranium phaeum cultivars, it prefers partial shade, but copes well with both full shade and full sun. It will grow in most soil conditions apart from heavy, waterlogged soil. It has a tendency to self-seed and spread, so is best used in informal planting, and may need support to stop it flopping over.
