AGMDespite its name, Nandina domestica is not a bamboo, but an extremely useful shrub with many seasons of interest. Its bright green foliage turns reddish-purple in the autumn and it has white flowers in mid-summer that ripen to red berries and persist late into the winter. Nandina 'Fire Power' is a compact cultivar (half the size of the species) with very curved leaves. It is these leaves, which turn a fiery red in autumn, that make this variety stand out.
In cooler areas in the UK it will need winter protection, but seems to cope well in the south of England.
