Description:
Origanum 'Rosenkuppel' or oregano has small leaves up tp 1cm in length, with a strong, aromatic smell and taste. Dark green leaves and deep pink, purple flowers attract bees and butterflies. A perennial herb belonging to the mint family, its leaves have a similar size, and oval shape, but different taste, and generally smaller. A woody sub-shrub, used to the heat of the sun in the Mediterranean, it is happy to grow in moderately dry areas in full sun, but can adapt to semi-shade, and a range of soil p.H, prefering alkaline, or chalky soils in the wild. Often called wild marjoram, Origanum looks like its cousin herb, sweet marjoram. Protect from winter wet and frosts in colder climes.
